Air Italy Polska Pilot Among Małopolska Aces

Michał Wieczorek from the Krakow Flying Club who flies Air Italy Polska Boeings 737-800 NG has been voted the Greatest Discovery of 2010. This coveted title has been awarded by the readers and editors of the Dziennik Polski daily, putting Wieczorek among sports stars such as Justyna Kowalczyk, Rafał Sonik, Kamil Stoch, Paweł Janusz, Grzegorz Sudoł or Agnieszka Radwańska.

Michał Wieczorek’s involvement with aviation dates back 13 years. He flies gliders and sport aircrafts. So far, he has flown over 2,500 hours. Michał hails from the famous “Wieczorek brothers” family – his father and two uncles fly airliners and sport planes as well.

Michał Wieczorek has been a member of the national sport aviation team for 8 years. Until 2006, he used to fly as a navigator together with his father. In 2005, they became champions of Europe, and went on to win the World Championship in 2006. For the first time in the history of aviation sports, father and son won the most prestigious competition.

Currently, Michał Wieczorek flies as a sport pilot together with Michał Osowski, the son of national team coach Andrzej Osowski.

As a junior, Michał Wieczorek won the Championship of Poland twice; in 2010, he triumphed in the regular Championship of Poland. He also won the Polish Cup.

In the 2010 World Rally Flying Championship in Dubnica (Slovakia), Michał Wieczorek finished in the second place while the Polish team outperformed all others in the team competition.

”I am glad that such a talented pilot who, while young, has already won many accolades, flies for Air Italy Polska. I wish Michał every success. The AIP team hopes for even more medals,” said Mariusz Szpikowski, President of Air Italy Polska.

“Flying is my passion. Working for Air Italy Polska makes my dreams come true. Flying the Boeing 737-800 NG, which is the most technologically advanced and safest airliner in its class, brings great fulfilment and joy. At the beginning, there was also great excitement, since AIP was the first airline in Poland to operate these state-of-the-art aircraft,” said Michał Wieczorek.
